We know we need to move more white people into our movement to fight for economic and racial justice. We also know that many people have been misled by false narratives, and the racist divide and conquer strategies of authoritarian leaders. There are also people who agree with some of our values, but who are not taking action to support these values. This is where Calling In comes in.
Calling In can be both a conversational framework and a movement strategy to gain political power. That’s why the SURJ NYC Calling In Team is excited to announce a new monthly space to process and practice difficult conversations in community. Join us this spring on Zoom the third Monday of each month from 8-9pm for Calling In Practice Hour!
If you’ve recently had a conversation come to an impasse over differing beliefs and perspectives, or are struggling to have productive conversations with friends, family, neighbors, or colleagues, bring your own example(s) and talk through it with the support of others committed to a world where everyone can thrive.
Since there will not be any formal instruction, Calling In Practice Hour is best suited for folks who already have some familiarity with the Calling In framework from a Calling In workshop, or from Loretta Ross’s book or teaching.
If you are new to Calling In, please join the full workshop on Monday March 30 from 7:00-8:45pm to learn the Calling In framework - and then you can sign up to attend subsequent Practice Hours.
With patience, skills, and practice we can win allies and accomplices to our work by calling people in, rather than calling them out.
In Solidarity,
SURJ NYC’s Calling In Team
