Take Action TodaY

ICE OUT NOW!

  • Contact New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill and urge her to comply with the demands of folks on hunger strike inside Delaney Hall. Their demands are:

    1. A meeting with Gov. Sherrill inside the facility to observe conditions and hear their testimonies.

    2. The release of medically vulnerable people, including those who are elderly or sick.

    3. An end to coercive pressure to sign deportation or voluntary departure documents.

    4. Ensure meaningful review of immigration cases and habeas petitions.

    5. Freedom for all!

  • SupportOurFamilies has a number of ways you can move money to families of those in detention at Delaney Hall as well as groups supporting folks in detention, their loved ones, and local organizing efforts.

  • Donate to South Brooklyn community members targeted by ICE. These GoFundMes are raising money for families of immigrants who’ve been detained since November and whose situations are known to organizers on the ground. You can also donate to the South Brooklyn Legal Support Fund through a partnership with Mixteca.

  • Move money to support impacted communities and folks organizing on the ground. Support is needed here in NYC: GoFundMe campaigns for Osvaldo, Gilberto, Glenda, Karina, and Manuel from Sunset Park.

Weekly Vigil For Democracy

Tuesdays, 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center

Join us in standing up for our neighbors. The vigil will be held at the notorious Metropolitan Detention Center, which has had a reputation for inhumane conditions: rancid food, lack of heating in winter, and oppressive heat in summer. Now, ICE is using the Metropolitan Detention Center to detain our immigrant neighbors — mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters.

Members of SURJ’s Immigration Justice working group will be attending this vigil organized by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and Indivisible Brooklyn.

Since 2018, Jose has served as the Director of the Release Aging People in Prison Campaign, stepping into the role through the appointment of one of RAPP’s co-founders, Mujahid Farid. Under Jose’s leadership, RAPP has grown in powerful and transformative ways while remaining deeply rooted in the values, vision, and purpose the organization was founded on. In honor of Jose and his leadership, RAPP’s goal is to raise $1,000 for each year he's been on this earth, that's $75,000!

Immigration Justice Reading Group

Tuesday, June 16, 7:00pm

Join SURJ NYC's Immigration Justice Working Group in reading Robin D.G. Kelley's classic Freedom Dreams: The Black Radical Imagination.

For this first meeting, we'll read the first two chapters (pages 1-60). Read! Discuss! Connect! It’s a great way to deepen our commitment to - and understanding of - the complex issues surrounding immigration that all of our families and friends are facing today.

Additional Meetings:

Indigenous Solidarity Book Club

Monday, July 13, 7:00pm - 8:00pm

Join the Indigenous Solidarity Working Group as we discuss chapters from Robin Wall Kimmerer's "Braiding Sweetgrass." Order the book from an Indigenous-owned bookstore here, or let us know if you need help getting a copy.

Together we'll learn about de-colonial practices from Indigenous people and weave those learnings into our organizing. Show up as you are each month and let's spend some time and grow together. We'll discuss Chapter 12: "Epiphany in the Beans.”

Additional Meetings:

Release Wesley Sykes From Solitary Confinement

Wesley Sykes has been held in the Special Housing Unit (SHU 200 /THE BOX) for approximately four years — far exceeding the limits established under New York’s HALT Solitary Confinement Act. The HALT Act restricts segregated confinement to no more than 15 consecutive days and was enacted to prevent the severe psychological and physical harm caused by prolonged isolation. Despite this legal standard, Mr. Sykes remains in the SHU 200 Special Housing Unit well beyond the allowable timeframe, raising serious concerns about compliance with state law.

URge Congress To STop Warehousing Immigrants!

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are expanding their existing detention network beyond jails, prisons, and military bases to include large warehouse and industrial spaces for mass detention. Members of Congress can do something to stop this! Urge your members of Congress to use their power to say NO to warehouse detention!

Demand Apple and Google Stop App Censorship

Apple and Google recently agreed to government requests to remove ICE tracking apps off their app stores, including RedDot, ICEBlock, and Eyes Up which let people report sightings of ICE and/or preserve video evidence of ICE abuses. This app store censorship helps government surveillance efforts and puts real people in danger, all while setting a terrible precedent where the Trump Administration gets to decide what apps we can and can’t access.

Put a Stop to an AI Data Center at the STAMP Mega Industrial Site

Send a letter to the Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC) in opposition to a massive AI data center at STAMP, right next to the Tonawanda Seneca Nation. This data center will threaten the Nation’s way of life, continued existence on its homelands, and treaty rights. The provided one-click tool will allow you to submit comments that reflect the direct demands of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation.

Help Protect Immigrant New Yorkers from Mass Deportation!

Urge your elected officials to pass the New York For All Act! NY4All (S.2235 Gounardes / A.3506 Reyes) helps immigrant New Yorkers lead freer lives and take care of family, preserves state and local resources for community safety, ensures that local resources cannot be diverted to carry out ICE’s cruelty, and protects immigrant families. With the end of the legislative session fast approaching, now is a crucial time to put pressure on our representatives!

Move Money For Palestine

  • Donate to Medical Aid for Palestinians

  • To support ongoing organizing in the US for Palestinian liberation and against Israeli occupation and apartheid, donate and consider making a monthly financial commitment to Palestine Legal, the Adalah Justice Project, Jewish Voice for Peace, and IfNotNow.

  • In the South Hebron Hills, Palestinian women are leading with courage. The Rural Women's Association is a small group of women who offer social and emotional support for the children and families, often after attacks. Most recently, they put on a workshop for the children of Um Al Kheir and visited the villagers from Khallet a Dhaba in the hospital after their attack. Donate today and stand with women on the frontlines of justice.

  • Join the Break the Bonds New York State campaign in their call to tell New York to stop purchasing Israel Bonds for the Common Retirement Fund!
